Estate Sales Are About More Than Selling a House
By Arron Renfrew | Asset Manager | Renfrew Team | AUM Real Estate
One of the most meaningful parts of my career is helping families after the loss of a loved one. Inheriting property can be both a blessing and an overwhelming responsibility. During an emotional time, you're suddenly faced with difficult financial decisions, legal questions, and the challenge of determining what to do with assets that may have been in your family for generations.
This is where I believe an Asset Manager should provide much more than a traditional real estate service.
My role begins with understanding the complete picture. Before anyone decides whether to sell, rent, renovate, or hold a property, I work with families to analyze the asset itself. Every property is different, and every family's financial goals are different. Sometimes selling is the right decision. Other times, preserving the property creates greater long-term wealth or provides income for future generations.
I help clients evaluate the property's current market value, rental potential, maintenance requirements, capital improvement opportunities, tax considerations, and overall role within the family's financial strategy. My goal is to help people make informed decisions instead of rushed emotional ones.
Over the years, I have built a trusted network of professionals that can assist with nearly every aspect of an estate. Whether the property needs repairs, cleaning, landscaping, personal property removal, appraisals, estate sale coordination, legal referrals, or preparation for market, I can help assemble the right team to move the process forward efficiently and respectfully.
Many inherited homes have been owned for decades. They often need deferred maintenance addressed before a sale or require careful planning to maximize value. In other cases, the property may represent an excellent long-term investment that should remain in the family. My responsibility is to provide honest analysis—not simply recommend selling because that's what a real estate agent does.
Families also appreciate having someone who can coordinate the many moving pieces. Managing contractors, preparing a property, reviewing market conditions, evaluating investment returns, and creating a clear plan can remove an enormous amount of stress during an already difficult time.
I've spent my career helping clients build, preserve, and manage real estate wealth. Estate properties deserve the same thoughtful approach. Whether you're inheriting a single-family home, condominium, apartment building, or a portfolio of investment properties, the decision should be based on sound financial strategy rather than uncertainty.
If you or your family are facing an estate settlement, I would be honored to help you evaluate your options. My objective isn't simply to sell a property—it's to help you make the best decision for your family's financial future while treating your loved one's legacy with the respect it deserves.
